If you want to see the cars the best thing to do is to come to Serpentine Road in London's Hyde Park The cars assemble here from about 6:30am onwards. The first set of car's (the oldest ones first) leave Serpentine Road onto Hyde Park Corner at just after 7:00am and then in batches every 5-10 minutes after that. We usually cross the start line in the second batch at 7:15am. Don't ask when the last cars cross the start line because I have never been around to see it.
Since 2002 there has been a change of route, the cars go down Constitution Hill, past Buckingham Palace and then on down Birdcage Walk to Parliament Square. A good place to view the London to Brighton Run is on Westminster Bridge. This is a favorite place for photographers because of the backdrop of the Houses of Parliament.
Then its the long trek though south London. Lots of people lock their car doors when going though South London. The problem for the veteran cars is that most do not have any doors to lock.
Brixton High Street is usually quite busy with the clubbers just coming out of the Fridge, then it's the first test for the old cars, Brixton Hill....
Another good place to see many of the cars is at the official coffee stop in Crawley High Street, the cars will start to arrive there from 9:10am.
Finally the cars end up at Brighton sea front (Madeira Drive) the first cars will arrive anytime after 10:40am (usually the faster 1904 cars first) and then through the rest of the day the older cars will arrive. The deadline is to arrive at Brighton by 16:00. We usually make it down to Brighton at around 13:30.
